The Mill where these beautiful and sustainable blankets are woven is located close to the weaving heart of Selkirk and the ‘Ettrick Water’ a tributary of the River Tweed. The looms used at Forest Mill hark back to a bygone age, however skills and passion are very much alive with Robin Elliot son of Andrew Elliot still in charge of design and manufacture. Andrew Elliot Ltd was established in 1965 and in 1972 moved to the vast and historic Forest Mill to enable the use of large mechanical Victorian weaving machines to produce unique high-quality tweeds.
Each throw is different in colour as the yarn used is excess from previous weaves of the beautiful tweed made with the same looms. The pattern on the blankets and throws stays the same, but the colour varies within the colour hues. Very natural and ecological.
Hebridean Journey are regular visitors to this fascinating company, and hand select these beautiful blankets for our collection.
